Case Study 1

Problem Statement

Management for a major manufacturer had been told that the production area did not have enough capacity to support the 5 year forecast.  A project team had been initiated to finish development of an equipment change that would add capacity to production.

Through Value Stream Mapping, brainstorming and risk analysis, it was determined that improvements could be made to the process to increase capacity without implementing the proposed equipment, which carried with it a great deal of risk.  In addition, a multi-million dollar cost savings that surfaced during the brainstorming process was presented to management through a minor redesign of the existing equipment.
